Hello to everyone, right from me and my lunch-break:
I like Eric´s idea of a protective spirit bound into a bookplate so much that I just made up 20 possible ways a guarding spirit could act. Please consider this a “work-in-progress”, as I am currently planning to turn these into spells and effects that will be fully compatible to Labyrinth Lord™. Likewise, the “titles” are just working titles as well.

Today, I would like to refer you to the realm of a different blogger, one that I have been following (“manually”) for more than a year by now. Eric from the Sword and Stitchery blog at blogspot released an inspiring article about bookplate guardian spirits.
One has to like Eric´s blog for the sheer volume of his output alone. If there was a week passing without him having some free d20, d10 or d6 random table out for some OSR game, I fail to remember it.
